Autonomous Robotics in Construction

Award: Share of up to €4 million

Programme: Horizon / EIC Pathfinder

Closing date: 29 October 2025

Overview

On-site construction presents one of the most challenging environments for robotics: unstructured, ever-changing, with human presence and complex task combinations. The goal of this Pathfinder Challenge is to enable autonomous collaborative robot collectives that can work together and alongside humans to perform complex construction tasks. The aim is to rethink construction from first principles — moving past simply automating legacy tools towards new architectures of robots, electrified systems, and modular building processes — so that off-site fabrication and on-site autonomous assembly become part of a seamless “designed-for-robotics” production chain.

Eligibility

  • Projects must deliver TRL 4 validation of robotic assembly in laboratory settings (e.g. pavilion module assembly).
  • Open to construction tasks spanning site preparation, substructure, and superstructure, including coordination among tasks.
  • Emphasis on multi-robot collaboration, human-robot interaction, robotic learning, distributed control, and electrification of equipment.
  • Must propose radical innovations, not incremental upgrades to existing tools.
  • Use of “designed-for-robotics” building modules is required, incorporating robot-material interfaces and module interfaces.
  • Projects may include adjacent construction segments (e.g. infrastructure, tunnels, foundations) if relevant.

Award & Project Duration

  • Award: Share of up to €4 million.
  • Projects must reach TRL 4 demonstration in lab environment by project end.

Key Dates

  • Closes: 29th October 2025
