Introduction

The Biomedical Accelerator 2025 is designed to support early and growth-stage health and life sciences innovators. By joining one of the themed accelerator programmes, you’ll gain access to expert mentoring, workshops, and investment readiness support.

Critically, participation in an Accelerator is required before you can apply for closed Biomedical Catalyst grant competitions, which include:

  • Feasibility grants (up to £100k, 100% funded)
  • Industry-led R&D projects (£150k–£4m, with up to £2m grant)

Themes for 2025 include:

  • Managing Chronic Conditions (TRL – 2 -4 early stage)
  • Future Medicines (TRL – 2 -4 early stage)
  • Hospital to Community (TRL – 2 -4 early stage)
  • FemTech (TRL4+ later stage)
  • MedTech Kickstarter (TRL4+ later stage)

Eligibility

To participate, your organisation must be a UK-registered SME (including start-ups and spinouts) working in the health and life sciences sector. Eligible areas include:

  • Medicines & pharmaceuticals (drug discovery, therapeutic development, advanced therapies)
  • Health technologies (diagnostics, imaging, medical devices, sensors, robotics)
  • Digital health & AI (data-driven health, monitoring, independent living)

All work must be carried out in the UK, and you must intend to exploit results in the UK.

Award & Project Duration

This is an accelerator course that will gain you access to:

  • Feasibility studies: up to £100,000, fully funded.
  • Industry-led R&D: £150,000–£4 million project costs, up to £2m grant, with funding rates of up to 70% for SMEs.
