Biotech for Climate Resilient Crops and Plant-Based Biomanufacturing
Award: Share of up to €4 million
Programme: Horizon Europe – EIC Pathfinder Challenge
Closing date: 29 October 2025
Overview
This Pathfinder Challenge aims to support breakthrough biotechnological innovations that enhance the resilience of crops to climate change while enabling sustainable, plant-based biomanufacturing. Projects should explore novel biotechnologies that improve crop adaptation under multiple environmental stresses—such as heat, drought, salinity, flooding, or pest pressure—and develop efficient, low-emission processes for producing high-value ingredients within plants. Solutions must be energy- and resource-efficient, maintain or enhance biodiversity, and contribute to sustainable food systems and healthy diets.
Eligibility
Projects must address both crop resilience and plant-based biomanufacturing.
Open to legal entities from EU or Horizon-associated countries.
Funding available up to €4 million per project.
Must achieve TRL 4 (validated in laboratory environment).
Proposals must demonstrate novel, non-incremental innovation.
May integrate multi-omics, AI, or nanotechnology approaches.
Regulatory and ethical considerations must be included where relevant.
