What is a grant?
Innovation grants are a way for Governments (UK and EU) to fund ideas and projects to stimulate the economy, and to help them to meet their targets and policies (e.g. Net Zero commitments). Grant funding de-risks the innovation process, enabling organisations to develop innovative products, processes and services without relying on their own financial resources.
The grant funding application process is competitive and can be difficult to navigate the requirements of the grant funding body.
What can it be used for?
Typically, an innovation grant is used for research and development activities including labour, materials, equipment, travel etc., but some programmes focus on providing capital investment for decarbonisation or animal welfare.
How much money can you apply for?
This varies between funding programmes and can range from as little as £10K to over £10M on large infrastructure projects. Most grant funding programmes will provide a percentage of the total costs, which are often dependent upon size of company applying, e.g. smaller companies qualify for larger % than large companies.
