EnergyZero Emission Vessels and Infrastructure 2: Alternative Fuels

Zero Emission Vessels and Infrastructure 2: Energy Efficiency

Award: Up to £30 Million

Programme: Innovate UK

Closes: 16 September 2026

Overview

The Zero Emission Vessels and Infrastructure 2 (ZEVI 2): Energy Efficiency competition is a major funding opportunity delivered by Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), in partnership with the Department for Transport (DfT). It provides a share of up to £150 million to support the development, deployment and operation of innovative clean maritime technologies in real-world environments.

This competition forms part of the wider UK SHORE programme, which aims to position the UK as a global leader in clean maritime technology and accelerate progress towards net zero emissions in shipping. Projects must demonstrate their solutions over a three-year operational period without further funding support, validating technologies at scale.

The Energy Efficiency strand specifically focuses on the development and build of innovative vessel energy efficiency technologies, alongside any necessary supporting infrastructure upgrades. Projects must integrate onboard systems and, where relevant, shoreside infrastructure, delivering solutions that operate effectively in real-world maritime environments such as ports, harbours, inland waterways and offshore settings.

By supporting large-scale demonstration and deployment, the competition aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen UK industrial capability and accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and efficient maritime sector.
