Accelerate-to-Demonstrate (A2D) Facility
Driving Clean Energy Innovation in Developing Economies
The Accelerate-to-Demonstrate (A2D) Facility is a collaborative initiative between the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ).
Launched in 2023 with an initial commitment of £65 million, A2D aims to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative clean energy solutions in developing countries, particularly those eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA).
Focus Areas
The A2D Facility targets four critical thematic areas essential to achieving a global clean energy transition:
- Critical Minerals
- Clean Hydrogen
- Smart Energy
- Industrial Decarbonisation
Funding Scope
- Grant size: USD 1–5 million per project
- Purpose: Support the implementation and operation of high-impact demonstration projects with strong potential for scalability and transformational impact.
Strategic Impact
The A2D Facility aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 13 – Climate Action
- SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
- SDG 1 – No Poverty
By fostering sustainable industrial development and climate resilience, A2D helps drive equitable growth and a clean energy future in ODA-eligible nations.
