The Collaborate with Researchers in Norway opportunity is a UKRI funding mechanism enabled by a Money Follows Cooperation (MfC) agreement between UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Research Council of Norway (RCN). It allows UK-led research proposals to include project co-leads based in Norway strengthening cross-border collaboration across disciplines and subject areas.
Under this arrangement, researchers based at eligible UK institutions can include Norway-based co-leads (PcL (I)) in applications submitted to participating UKRI funding calls published by councils such as AHRC, EPSRC, ESRC, MRC and NERC. The Norway co-leads can be funded by UKRI for their contribution to the project, provided the research council’s individual funding opportunity allows international collaboration and the partnership brings clear added value.
This is not a standalone grant scheme; it is open to existing UKRI funding opportunities to enhanced international participation by enabling Norway collaborators to be included and funded within the application. Applicants must still apply through relevant UKRI funding routes and meet those programmes’ eligibility, scope and assessment criteria.
By facilitating joint research leadership between UK and Norwegian researchers, the initiative aims to support deeper international research partnerships and leverage complementary expertise across borders to address shared scientific challenges.
