The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme is a long-standing innovation initiative delivered by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) in partnership with Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN). It aims to connect UK businesses with academic and research expertise to drive innovation, improve productivity and accelerate commercial growth.
Through KTPs, businesses of all sizes (from SMEs to large enterprises) can work with an eligible UK knowledge base organisation, such as a university, research institute or Catapult centre, on strategically important innovation projects. Each partnership recruits a KTP Associate who works within the business to integrate new knowledge, develop capabilities and deliver real commercial outcomes.
Funding support typically covers a substantial portion of the project costs, with businesses contributing towards the remainder. Projects can run for 12–36 months, during which the academic partner provides expertise and managerial oversight, and the Associate drives project delivery on the ground.
