Life Sciences Transformational R&D Investment Fund (TRIF) Pilot
Award: Dependant on the project
Programme: DSTI
Closes: 31 March 2028
Overview
The Life Sciences Transformational R&D Investment Fund (TRIF) Pilot is a new capital grant funding opportunity designed to support large-scale research and development investments in the UK’s life sciences sector. This grant initiative aims to drive innovation, strengthen health resilience and deliver economic benefit by enabling transformative R&D projects that would otherwise be delayed, scaled down or located overseas without public support.
The fund has £50 million available in capital grants and is open to projects with a total cost (including capital expenditure) of at least £100 million. Grants are typically set at the minimum level necessary to ensure projects proceed, around 10–20 % of total project costs (for example, around £10–£20 million for a £100 million project).
The TRIF Pilot complements other UK life sciences investment programmes, such as the Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund, by focusing specifically on transformational R&D-intensive investments that enhance the UK’s research capacity and innovation ecosystem.
