Overview

Design Generators is a funding opportunity from AHRC to support design led research that helps the UK move towards a greener future. The aim of the programme is to fund innovative projects that use design and arts and humanities methods to create practical interventions addressing environmental sustainability, decarbonisation, circular economies and regenerative practices.

The funding connects to the wider Future Observatory Design the Green Transition programme, led in partnership with the Design Museum, and focuses on work within real world systems such as healthcare, food, finance or governance. Projects should identify clear leverage points for positive change and must work closely with at least one non-academic partner, such as a business, public sector body, charity or community organisation, to ensure impact beyond academia.

Projects funded through this competition are expected to, Co-develop a design led intervention with a non-academic partner, work with communities or stakeholders so the work reflects lived experience, support greener behaviours and better decision making, create results that can be shared and used beyond the end of the grant.

Award & Project Duration

Award: Up to £200k.

Project: Projects should last no longer than 12 months, AHRC will fund 80% of full economic cost.
