Zero Emission Vessels and Infrastructure 2: Electric Power

Award: Up to £30 Million

Programme: Innovate UK

Closes: 16 September 2026

Overview

The Zero Emission Vessels and Infrastructure 2 (ZEVI 2): Electric Power competition is a major funding opportunity delivered by Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), in partnership with the Department for Transport (DfT). It provides a share of up to £150 million to support the development, deployment and operation of innovative clean maritime technologies in real-world environments.

This competition is part of the wider UK SHORE programme, which aims to position the UK as a global leader in clean maritime technology and accelerate progress towards net zero emissions in shipping. Projects must demonstrate their solutions over a three-year operational period, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions across maritime systems.

The Electric Power strand specifically supports innovations such as 100% battery-electric vessels, vessel charging infrastructure, and shore power systems, alongside associated port and energy infrastructure. Projects are expected to deliver integrated, scalable solutions that can operate in real-world maritime settings, including ports, harbours and offshore environments.

By funding large-scale demonstration and deployment, the competition aims to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission maritime technologies, strengthen UK industrial capability, and support the transition to a more sustainable and competitive maritime sector.
